- To offer an introduction to the excitement and adventure of offshore sailing to young people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who have special educational and social needs.

- To teach the skills of seamanship and to offer RYA practical courses in the cruising scheme under the direction of qualified instructors.

- To create opportunities for personal development in a physically challenging environment and to inculcate initiative and leadership skills.

- To provide the basis for a communal experience on board ship in which teamwork and cooperation are at least as important as self reliance, toughness and individual fortitude.

- To encourage an awareness of the beauty of the natural world, particularly the sea in all its changing moods and man's place in that world.
