Adventures Offshore is a Scout District in Essex County. As a Scout District, we are unusual in that we do not have any groups or leaders; instead, we have a large number of qualified activity instructors. We are a registered charity (number 1035015) and managed by a group of trustees, who meet regularly to deal with all pertinent matters and to agree on policies and plans for the future.

Most of the day-to-day work behind the scenes is done at "Tolken", our office in West Mersea. This is where all bookings and administrative matters are dealt with.

The sailing trips themselves are run by volunteer afterguard (skippers and mates). Most of the trustees are also afterguard members. Even though they are all volunteers, all of our afterguard hold commercial sailing qualifications, as our boats are "coded" for commercial use and operated to commercial standards.

At the end of every sailing season, the boats are lifted out of the water for their annual refit. This is done using mainly the skills of our afterguard and other volunteers.

At the end of the winter refit the AGM is held, followed by the annual dinner - a social event that brings together everyone that is involved in Adventures Offshore. This is attended by trustees, afterguard and representatives from Essex Scouts.
